Taking a Step Up in Discus Keeping

Very minimal that I can do here. I am trying to breed a pair of Discus. These are a White Butterfly Throwback a stock that I acquired when these were 2.5 - 3 inches (3-4 months old: July 2008). I was lukcy that I got 2 fish at that size and they turned out to be a Male and Female. With cichlids, this is a definite challenge at that young age. This pair is now 6-7 inches in size at about 14-15 months of age (dec 2009).
I have isolated them in a 29g breeder tank and hoping they breed for me. I am not doing any "gymanastics" with water. Change about 50% water twice a week and for the most part following a write written by a fellow hobbyist friend.
Take a look. As they say "One can only take the horse to water, cannot make the horse drink neither can you drink for the horse"

Shifting gears in the hobby to keep more wilds, I sold this pair on Jan 16, 2010 to another hobyist friend. Sad to let the pair go as I gew them to this size from 2.5 inch. But with one gone, there is always a chance for another

Geophagus Altifrons Spawn

I started keeping one of favorite cichlids - Geophagus Altifrons 6 months back. I acquired excellent stock from Jeff Rapps. My Geos began spawning about 2 months back but after 4 spwans, Geos are able to maintain their babies and mouth brood them very well. Indeed its a learning curve on the fish as well. Its an amazing site to watch when the babies literally form a ball and get sucked in. Mother nature is amazing. This is a video of them spawning (below) and then the babies about a 5-8 days old. Its a remarkable sight to watch

Once a discus keeper .. always a Discus keeper

I am avid fish keeper. I have always been. I loved keeping fish as a kid and I love doing it now.

Discus: Symphysodon spp
I keep primarily a Discus lover : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discus_(fish)
Once a discus keeper .. always a Discus keeper
They are fresh water fish and to me "King of Aquarium". Its not very hard to keep and maintain fish but its not something that one gets overnight. Being a discus keeper is a learning curve and I have loved every moment of it. Some of my fish are something I am truely proud about.

Geophagus Altifrons:

I also keep Geophagus Altifrons and Red Head Tapajos. They are fresh water fish as well and belong to category classifed as eartheater cichlid. I have wild Altifron pair that always breed for me and its an absolute joy to watch them spawn. These fish are called mouth brooders what that means is the male and the female nurse their fry in the mouth. Hats of mother nature

Hello

This is the blog - may be a log or may be just an idea or a concept to orginate concepts. Which ever way one chooses to look at it. Its something that "We - Sathe's" would use to reach to our loved ones. A means to communicate and say "Whats Up".

The family collage shows "We Sathe". Its all who we are and this is our life. Can't get any better than this !!!!

When Areen was 2 yrs old (2008), he used to narrate a famous Marathi "Mhataree Chee Goshtaa "chaal rey bhoplya" in a very very adorable way. I have never heard this story any better than this even growing up myself. Here you go - a class act
